Umalas: The Villa Belt Between Seminyak and Canggu
Umalas has no beach, no beach club, and no strip — and that’s precisely the appeal. It’s a leafy wedge of villa compounds, rice-field pockets, warungs, and quiet cafés folded between Kerobokan and Canggu, ten to fifteen minutes’ ride from the sand at Batu Belig or Berawa in one direction and the restaurants of Petitenget in the other. Long-stay guests, families, and anyone allergic to nightlife noise end up here, along garden lanes where the loudest thing at night is the frogs in the paddies.
For your transfer, Umalas is good news: at 12 km from the airport it’s the closest of the Canggu-side villages — closer than Berawa, closer than the main Canggu strip, and with a final approach that skips the coastal bottlenecks entirely. If your accommodation says Umalas, Bumbak, or Kerobokan Kelod, this is your route; for stays right on the Canggu beachfront, start from the Bali airport to Canggu transfer page instead.

The Drive: Short, with One Honest Warning
The route is the simplest of the Canggu belt: north from the terminal through the Dewa Ruci underpass, up Sunset Road, then left into Kerobokan and onto the Umalas lanes — Jl. Umalas I, Jl. Umalas II, or Jl. Bumbak depending on where your villa hides. On a clear morning you can be at your gate half an hour after the wheels stop; in the 16:00–19:00 crush through Kerobokan, closer to the hour. Wet-season rain (November–March) mainly slows the Sunset Road stretch.
The honest warning: Umalas lanes were built for scooters and blessed with corners a bus would never survive. Jl. Bumbak narrows in places to little more than one car’s width, and plenty of villas sit down a gang that no Alphard or V-Class will ever enter. This is normal — your chauffeur stops where the lane ends and walks your luggage to the gate. If you’re choosing between vehicles for a lane-end villa, the Innova is the nimblest of the fleet; if you’ve booked the V-Class for six people, expect a short, pleasant walk past the rice paddies at the end.
One thing that helps more than anything else: send a Google Maps pin with your booking. Umalas addresses lean on banjar names and guesswork, and a pin beats a street number here every single time.
Landing at Night? Umalas Rewards It
A lot of Umalas guests arrive on the late flights into DPS. It works in your favour: after 21:00 the Kerobokan traffic dissolves and the drive drops toward the 30-minute mark. Night pickups between 22:00 and 05:00 carry a flat $5 surcharge — nothing else changes, and the driver is at arrivals with your nameboard whatever time the flight actually lands, because we track it. The villa staff asleep? Tell us the gate code arrangement when you book and your chauffeur will handle the handover like someone who has done it hundreds of times, because he has.
Booking in Two Messages
First message: flight number, date, villa name or pin. Second message — ours: fixed fare, vehicle, driver details, all in writing. That’s the whole process, on WhatsApp +62 811 2859 0000 or through the online booking form. English-speaking chauffeurs, free cancellation up to 24 hours, and a desk at the airport around the clock if plans move.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Umalas from Bali Airport?
12 km — the shortest airport run of the Canggu-side villages. The drive takes 30–60 minutes: near half an hour early morning or late at night, toward the hour in the 16:00–19:00 Kerobokan peak.
How much is a private transfer from the airport to Umalas?
A fixed $110 for a Toyota Innova seating up to four, $155 for a six-seat Hyundai Staria, $215 for a Toyota Alphard, $275 for a Mercedes V-Class, and $385 for a Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 — each including meet & greet, flight tracking, tolls, and parking.
My villa is on a narrow lane off Umalas 1 or Umalas 2 — can the car reach it?
Usually yes with the Innova; the larger vans sometimes can’t make the tightest corners or gang entrances. Your driver will get as close as the lane allows and walk your bags to the gate. Send a Google Maps pin when booking so we plan the approach in advance.
Is Umalas a good base if I still want Seminyak and Canggu?
That’s its whole trick — the beaches at Batu Belig and Berawa and the Petitenget restaurant strip are each a short ride away, while Umalas itself stays quiet. You’re between both scenes rather than inside either.
