The Sanur Route — Bali Without the Toll Road

Unlike the Nusa Dua resorts, Hyatt Regency Bali is reached by a straight run north-east up the Ngurah Rai Bypass — no toll crossing involved. The road skirts the mangroves past Benoa harbour, passes the Sanur bypass junction, and turns seaward into Jalan Danau Tamblingan, the leafy resort street that defines Sanur. Outside the late-afternoon rush the drive sits at the lower end of the 35–60 minute range.

The resort itself is a Sanur institution: nine hectares of mature tropical gardens on the beachfront, rebuilt from the ground up before reopening as Hyatt Regency in 2019. It fronts the paved Sanur beach promenade, so once you have checked in you can walk or cycle for kilometres along the sand without touching a road — a good reason many returning visitors choose Sanur over the busier west coast.

Pickup at the Hotel — and Getting Back to DPS

Drop-off is at the porte-cochère off Jalan Danau Tamblingan, where the bell staff meet the car. For the reverse journey, we recommend leaving the Hyatt three hours before an international departure: up to an hour for the drive with a safety margin, the rest for check-in and immigration. Your driver confirms the pickup the evening before and again when he is outside the lobby.

Timing, Families and the Quiet Side of Bali

Sanur rewards travellers who want a calmer landing than Seminyak or Canggu. The run from DPS avoids the toll bridge entirely, so the cost driver is traffic rather than distance: outside the 16:00–19:00 crush the 16 km takes closer to 35 minutes, while a peak-hour arrival can stretch toward the full hour around the Benoa and Sanur junctions. Flights landing between 22:00 and 05:00 carry a $5 night supplement, and the driver still waits at arrivals with a nameboard however late the aircraft is.

The neighbourhood suits families and older travellers: the beachfront promenade is flat and paved, the water is calm, and Sanur wakes to one of the best sunrises on the island — the reason many repeat guests pick this coast. For the transfer itself, a family of four fits the Toyota Innova with room for cases, while five or six guests ride more easily in the Hyundai Staria or Toyota Alphard. Child seats are free when you tell us the ages, and one stop en route — a supermarket or pharmacy — adds only the flat $10 extra-stop fee.
