Balangan sits on the west coast of the Bukit Peninsula — the limestone table south of the airport — so this is one of the few Bali transfers that never touches the island’s worst traffic around Kuta and Canggu. From the terminal your driver heads south through Jimbaran, then climbs the hill on Jl. Uluwatu, where the road narrows and scooters weave between warungs and surf shops.
Near the top of the climb you’ll pass the turn-off to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park — the giant Vishnu statue is visible from the road on a clear day — before the route swings west toward Pecatu. The landscape changes character up here: dry limestone scrub, cattle paddocks, and villa gates where south Bali’s rice fields would be. The final stretch runs past the New Kuta Golf course and the Dreamland development before dropping down a short, steep lane to the Balangan cliff.
The last few hundred metres are the memorable part. The lane ends at a clifftop car park with one of the best free views in Bali: the full sweep of Balangan’s golden sand and its long left-hander peeling below. Beach access is by a concrete stairway down the cliff — a two-minute walk with a board under your arm.

Sunset chasers should note the reverse flow: leaving Balangan between 18:00 and 19:30 means merging with the Uluwatu temple crowd heading north. If you have an evening flight out, leave a bigger buffer than the map suggests.
