Why Private Transfer Is the Default for Candidasa

Candidasa is east Bali’s quiet resort strip — a line of seafront hotels, dive shops, and warungs on the old coastal road, favoured by travellers who find Sanur too busy. That quietness has a cost: no airport bus, no scheduled shuttle, and metered taxis are reluctant to run 62 km east without haggling a return fare on top. Ride-hail apps will quote the trip, but drivers frequently cancel once they see the distance, and finding a car back can be harder still.

Fixed per vehicle, one way — a set price rather than a Candidasa taxi fare haggled at the curb. The standard car is about Rp 3.42 million at current exchange rates.

62 km Along the East Coast Bypass

The drive is straightforward and mostly flat: out of the airport, around Sanur, then onto the Prof. Ida Bagus Mantra bypass that hugs the coast past Gianyar and Klungkung. You’ll pass Goa Lawah — the bat-cave temple directly beside the road, usually with ceremony umbrellas out front — then the turn-off for Padangbai harbour before the road narrows into Candidasa’s hotel strip. In normal traffic it is 90 minutes; leave the airport in the 16:00–19:00 rush and the first 20 minutes can stretch the trip toward 130.

Candidasa also works as a base or overnight stop for onward travel. Stops That Make Sense on This Route

Because the transfer is short by east-Bali standards, many guests add one stop and still arrive before check-in. The natural candidates: Goa Lawah temple (right on the road, 20–30 minutes with a sarong provided at the gate), the Tirta Gangga water palace up beyond Candidasa, or a late lunch on the strip before your villa opens. Each stop is a flat $10 added to the fare — tell us when you book so the driver builds the time in rather than improvising at the roadside.
