Serangan sits on a small bridged island — locals still call it Turtle Island — just off the Sanur–Benoa coast, and its harbour has grown into a real fast-boat departure point for Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. Several operators run the crossing from Serangan rather than the busier Sanur terminal, which is why some travellers arrive at DPS holding a ticket that reads “Serangan,” not “Sanur.” The two ports are only a few kilometres apart, but they are not interchangeable: your driver needs to know which jetty your operator uses, because turning up at the wrong harbour with a boat holding your seat is a genuinely stressful mistake.

The upside of Serangan is space and calm. Parking is easier than the crush at Sanur, the causeway approach is quick once you’re off the bypass, and check-in queues are usually shorter. Fast boats to Nusa Penida take roughly 30 to 45 minutes from here, and to Lembongan about 30 minutes, with the densest departure grid in the morning and last boats back generally in the late afternoon. As with every Bali crossing, schedules flex with season and swell — reconfirm your exact departure with the operator the day before, and treat 45 to 60 minutes before departure as your target arrival at the counter.

Can You Land at DPS and Catch a Nusa Boat the Same Day?

Usually yes — Serangan’s short drive is exactly what makes it work. From wheels-down at DPS, allow 45 to 75 minutes for immigration and bags on an international arrival (less for domestic), 30 to 50 minutes of driving to the harbour, and a 45 to 60 minute check-in buffer. That is roughly two to three hours between landing and the boat leaving the dock — comfortably tighter than the Padangbai run to the Gilis.

In practice a flight landing before about 14:00 leaves room for an afternoon Nusa Penida or Lembongan crossing, because departures run through the day and the harbour is close. The risk is not the drive; it is the last boat. Confirm your operator’s final departure before you rely on a same-day connection, and if you’re landing late evening, plan an overnight on the Bali side and take a first-morning boat instead. What Happens When You Arrive at Serangan

Your driver drops you as close to your operator’s check-in counter as the harbour marshals allow that day. From there it is a short walk to swap your voucher for boarding stickers and to settle the small harbour access fee that boat operators usually direct you to pay at the gate. Porters will offer to wheel your bags to the jetty — genuinely useful with dive gear or more than two cases — but agree the price per bag before handing anything over, as there is no fixed porter tariff.

Keep your passport in your daypack; operators check names against the manifest even for the short Nusa hop. Valuables belong in your carry-on rather than checked luggage, which rides on the boat’s open stern under a tarp.
