What the drive to Ubud actually looks like
Leaving the terminal, your driver follows the Ngurah Rai Bypass east past Sanur, then turns inland at the Tohpati junction, where batik workshops mark the start of Gianyar’s craft corridor. From there the road threads a string of villages that each own one trade: Batubulan with its stone carvers and barong-dance stages, Celuk lined with silversmith showrooms, Sukawati and its two-storey art market, Batuan — known for a dark, intricately detailed painting style and an 11th-century temple right beside the main road — and Mas, where woodcarving galleries run on for a kilometre. Past the dance stages of Peliatan the road narrows, the ravines deepen, and you are in Ubud.

- Before 08:00 — the fastest window. The bypass is clear and the craft villages have not opened yet, so the drive sits near the low end of the range.
- 08:00–15:00 — steady mid-range. Tour buses work the Sukawati–Mas corridor, but traffic keeps moving.
- 16:00–19:00 — the commuter peak around Sanur and Tohpati. Plan for the top of the range, especially on Fridays.
