Nusa Lembongan lies about 12 km off Bali’s southeast coast, the closest of the three Nusa islands. Being an island, “Bali airport to Nusa Lembongan” is always a two-part trip: a car leg to a mainland harbour and a fast-boat crossing. The good news is that Lembongan’s crossing is the shortest of the group — around 30 minutes on a clear day — so once you clear the harbour you are on the sand quickly.

The overwhelming majority of Lembongan boats leave from Sanur Harbour, the organised terminal that replaced the old beach launch. It has the most operators and the tightest morning schedule. A few services run from Serangan, nearer the airport, which some operators favour in heavy southerly swell — if your boat company puts you on a Serangan departure, tell us and we adjust the pickup; the harbour-transfer fare is quoted the same way. Boats dock on Lembongan at Mushroom Bay or the main Jungutbatu beachfront, depending on operator.

What the Car Costs — and What the Boat Costs

Treat the car and the boat as two separate purchases. A street taxi or Grab from the airport to Sanur runs a rough market range of Rp 250,000–400,000 — cheaper on paper, but metered to traffic, with no meet-and-greet and no coordination with your boat. Our airport-to-harbour car is a fixed Rp 1,875,000 (~$115) that includes a nameboard meet-and-greet, flight tracking, tolls and parking, and a pickup timed backwards from your departure so a late landing does not cost you the crossing.

The fast boat is a third-party ticket we do not sell — buy it directly from an operator at the terminal. Expect roughly Rp 150,000–300,000 per person one way, a little less than the Penida run because the crossing is shorter, and more for a return. Booking the boat yourself keeps you in charge of the schedule; our job is to get you to the counter with time to spare.

Airport to Sanur Harbour: Fixed Car Prices

Per vehicle, one way, over 18 km — the boat is a separate ticket you buy at the terminal.

The fare covers nameboard meet & greet, flight tracking, tolls and parking, air-conditioning and bottled water. Add the return leg for 5% off the combined price — useful for island stays that finish with a flight home. Night pickups (22:00–05:00) carry a $5 surcharge, card payments add 3%, and each extra stop is $10. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours ahead. The Full Route, in Order

1. Land at DPS and clear immigration. Allow 45–75 minutes from wheels-down to the arrivals curb for passport control and bags, longer on peak evenings. Your driver is already tracking the flight.
2. Meet your driver at arrivals. Find your name on the board just past customs; the car waits a short walk away in the pickup zone.
3. Drive to Sanur Harbour (18 km, 40–65 min). Early morning is a smooth 40 minutes up the bypass; mid-day and evening closer to 65.
4. Check in at your boat operator’s counter. Show the voucher or QR, present passports for the name-checked manifest, and pay the small harbour access fee the operator points you to.
5. Cross to Nusa Lembongan (about 30 min). Boats generally run from around 07:30 to late afternoon; the morning grid is busiest.
6. Land at Mushroom Bay or Jungutbatu. Most Lembongan stays are a short buggy or scooter hop from the beach; arrange island pickup with your hotel in advance.

Making Your Boat: The Honest Numbers

Plan on the slow figures. From an international arrival, count 45–75 minutes to exit the terminal, up to 65 minutes to the harbour in traffic, then a 45–60 minute terminal buffer before departure. In practice a flight landing by 09:30 connects comfortably to a late-morning boat; an afternoon landing should target the next morning’s departures rather than chase a last boat that leaves around 16:30–17:00.

Two things move the numbers. Southerly swell in the dry season (roughly May–September) can slow or reshuffle crossings, so reconfirm your boat the day before. Suitcases, Beach Landings, and Day Trips

Fast boats carry luggage on open deck racks and some Lembongan services still finish with a short wade or a beach landing at Jungutbatu rather than a dry jetty, so pack a rain cover for hard cases and keep valuables in a soft bag on your lap. If you have arrived on a long-haul flight with several large cases, many travellers leave the bulk in a mainland hotel and cross light, collecting it on the way back — Lembongan’s rooms are more compact than mainland resorts and buggies handle small bags best.

A Lembongan day trip is realistic if you land early: a morning boat, a loop of Mushroom Bay, Devil’s Tear and the mangroves, then an afternoon return. Land after lunch and it is better to overnight. Because the crossing is only 30 minutes, Lembongan is also the gentlest of the Nusa islands for families and first-timers — a strong reason to make it your first island night before tackling Penida’s steeper roads.
