Amed — 97 km, 2.5 to 3.5 hours
The long ribbon of fishing villages from Amed to Aas is Bali’s freediving and muck-diving heartland. It is the second-longest run on this page, and the last hour winds along a coastal road where a rested driver matters. Tulamben — 102 km, about 3 hours

Candidasa — 62 km, 1.5 to 2 hours

Padangbai — 47 km, 75 to 115 minutes

Sidemen — 47 km, 75 to 115 minutes
The inland exception: a green river valley of rice terraces and small lodges under Mount Agung, increasingly the choice of travellers who found Ubud too busy. Same fixed fare as Padangbai, $180, but the final stretch climbs narrow valley roads — another reason to arrive with a driver who runs them weekly. Shuttle vs Private Transfer to East Bali
Tourist shuttles do run east — mostly to Padangbai and Candidasa — and they are cheaper per seat. Whether they are cheaper per trip is a different question.

Honest summary: a solo backpacker with time and a mid-morning landing can save real money on a shuttle seat to Padangbai. Two or more people, anyone landing after mid-afternoon, and anyone with dive kit or boat tickets to protect are better off in a private car. What the Road East Actually Looks Like
Every east Bali run starts the same way: out of the airport, through the Kuta fringe, and onto the Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra bypass — the coastal highway that is the single best piece of road in Bali. It hugs the coast past Sanur and Gianyar with the sea flickering between temples and palm groves on your right. This stretch is why Sidemen and Padangbai are only 75 minutes away on a clear morning.
Past Klungkung the routes split. Padangbai and Candidasa traffic stays on the coast road past Goa Lawah, the bat-cave temple where tour buses cluster mid-morning. Sidemen traffic turns inland at Klungkung and climbs into the valley. Amed and Tulamben continue through Candidasa and then wind north around the flank of Mount Agung — the slowest, prettiest hour of the trip, past Tirta Gangga’s water palace country.
Timing matters more than distance here. Leave the airport before 15:00 and the bypass flows; land in the evening crush and the first 30 minutes out of the airport can double. The far-east runs also mean arriving after dark if you land late — the roads are fine, but most guests prefer the coast views in daylight, which is worth weighing when you pick flights.
